The 66th session of the World Health Assembly began here today with the participation of a delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by Prince Abdul-Aziz bin Ahmed bin Abdul-Aziz, a member of the Board of Trustees of The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and the Chairman of IAPB in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The 9-day session will discuss a number of health issues such as the fight against non-communicable diseases. The World Health Assembly (WHA) is the decision-making body of World Health Organization (WHO). It is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget.
