Two people were killed when Cyclone Mahasen hit the Bangladeshi coast on Thursday, dpa quoted officials at the Department of Disaster Management as saying . The two elderly people died when trees fell on them in the southern districts of Bhola and Barguna along the Bay of Bengal, Giasuddin Ahmed, a deputy director at the department, told dpa by phone. More than 500 homes in Patuakhali district, some 150 kilometres south of Dhaka, were damaged, according to preliminary information from the disaster management control room. Low-lying areas and islands in the Bay of Bengal were submerged by tidal surges. There were surges of up to three metres in some places.
