Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Nakba (the catastrophe of mass deportation of a million Palestinians from their cities and villages, massacres of civilians, and the razing to the ground of hundreds of Palestinian villages) has stressed the responsibility of the international community towards compelling Israel to comply with the rules of international legitimacy and lift the injustice which is still a reality on the Palestinian people. He noted that the event coincided with a serious escalation in policies of Israel (the occupying power), which are based on settlement, blockade and the Judaization of Al-Quds in order to remove the features of the city, change its Arab and Islamic character, empty it from its original inhabitants and isolate it from its Palestinian surroundings. In a statement on this occasion, the Secretary-General stressed the responsibility of the international community towards finding a political solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law and the resolution of international legitimacy, ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and enabling the Palestinian people to regain their inalienable national rights including the right to embody the sovereignty of their independent state with Al-Quds as its capital and the right of Palestinian refugees to return according to the United Nations General Assembly resolution 194.
