Civil Defense reveals figures about damages and losses incurred by citizens and expats in the Kingdom due to heavy rains and floods over the last two weeks
Civil Defense authority has received and positively and immediately responded to as many as 46900 distress calls from citizens and expatriates all over the Kingdom seeking help to overcome different problems incurred due to heavy rains and floods over the last two weeks, officials said today. In a statement, the Director General of Civil Defense Gen. Saad bin Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri disclosed that his rescue teams were able to salvage more than 6800 people affected by rains and floods and provide urgent shelter and accommodation for more than 4700. He said more than 700 civil defense contingents were deployed in certain places where water was expected to overflow, a measure led to the rescue of several people before getting stranded. However, 25 were killed, out of them nine in Riyadh Region, seven in Al-Taif province, six in Al-Baha, two in Assir Region, and one in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah Region, and three still missing, two in Al-Baha valleys and one in Hail Region, the Civil Defense leader said. He said more than 55% of those stranded and called for help were inside their vehicles, 30% incurred traffic accidents, 10% were inside their homes, rest houses, and valleys and nearly 5% suffered other incidents including electric default, and telecommunications interruptions.
