The Jordanian ambassador to the United Nations met with the U.N. Security Council behind closed doors Tuesday to follow up on a letter he sent last week asking the council to visit Jordan to determine the refugee situation a threat to international peace and security. Prince Zeid Ra'ad Zeid Al-Hussein said after the meeting that there was broad support for the efforts Jordan is taking to shelter Syrian refugees fleeing conflict, and there was some support for the idea of a visit to the country. Al-Hussein said that the refugee situation should not be seen “as an adjunct to the crisis in Syria but a crisis in its own right."
