U.S. stocks closed higher Tuesday, as the S&P 500 hit a record high and the Nasdaq finished at its highest level in more than 12 years. The dollar lost ground versus the euro and the pound, but gained ground against the yen. Light sweet crude oil for June delivery rose 46 cents to $93.46 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures climbed $4.70 to $1,472.10. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 21.05, or 0.14 percent, to 14,839.80. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 3.96, or 0.25 percent, to 1,597.57. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index moved up 21.77, or 0.66 percent, to 3,328.79.
