U.S. stocks closed mixed Tuesday, with the Dow moving closer to a record high. The dollar lost ground versus the euro and the yen, but gained ground against the pound. Light sweet crude oil for March delivery rose 48 cents to $97.51 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures gained 50 cents to $ 1,649.60. The Dow Jones industrial average moved up 47.46, or 0.34 percent, to 14,018.70. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 2.42, or 0.16 percent, to 1,519.43. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index dropped 5.52, or 0.17 percent, to 3,186.49.
