The Permanent Delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Geneva headed by Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Abdul-Kareem Bucheery, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva, took part in the second session of the Preparatory Committee for the Review Conference 2015 for the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation Nuclear currently being held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. Dr. Bucheery delivered a statement on behalf of the Kingdom of Bahrain, saying that the position of Bahrain, emanating from its own desire as a peace-loving nation, and the position of the Arab League, is summed up by the implementation of the commitments made by the parties to the treaty in establishing a Middle East free of nuclear weapons, and subjecting all nuclear facilities to comprehensive safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), treating the Middle East's decision as part of the audit process. Dr. Bucheery also said that the Arab states agreed to the indefinite extension of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons against the establishment of Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction, similar to those set up in Africa, Latin America and South and Central Asia. This decision has become an integral part of the indefinite extension deal of the treaty, which must be legally implemented. In this regard, the Permanent Representative stressed the importance of adopting practical and effective measures, aimed at implementing the resolution on the Middle East, and implementing mechanisms to monitor compliance with those measures and monitoring of progress. He concluded by expressing Bahrain's dissatisfaction with the unjustified postponement of the 2012 Conference on the establishment of a nuclear-free zone and called on States parties to adopt a clear position, by entrust the parties organizing the conference to convene later at the end of 2013. He called for preparatory meetings to set the conference's agenda, its framework and its final documents, in accordance with the terms of reference and agreements set by the 2010 conference, and in accordance with the policies included in the Arab League's speech in this regard.
