At least six people died and 64 others were injured Wednesday when a moderate 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook Afghanistan, UPI quoted officials as saying. Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, a spokesman for the government of Nangahar province, said the quake damaged a large number of structures in the region, Voice of America reported. Tremors were felt as far away as New Delhi, causing a mild panic when some buildings began to sway. The temblor struck at 4:25 a.m. EST at a depth of 38.6 miles about 59 miles east of Kabul and 15 miles west northwest of Jalalabad, Pakistan, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
