U.S. stocks closed higher Tuesday, as investors cheered a full slate of corporate results and economic reports. The dollar dropped versus the euro and the pound, but climbed against the yen. Light sweet crude oil for May delivery rose 1 cent to $88.72 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures climbed $26.30 to $1,387.40 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 157.58, or 1.08 percent, to 14,756.78. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 22.21, or 1.43 percent, to 1,574.57. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index climbed 48.14, or 1.50 percent, to 3,264.63.
