At least 83 workers were buried Friday after a major landslide in a gold mining area in the Tibet Autonomous Region, dpa quted Chinese state media as saying. The Xinhua news agency reported that more than 1,000 rescuers were working at the site, in Lhasa's Maizhokunggar county, which is at an altitude of 4,600 metres. Lhasa is the regional capital. The landslide covered an area of 3 kilometres, and the regional administration said there was about 2 million cubic metres of mud, rock and debris.
