A Swedish photographer won the 2012 World Press Photo award Friday for a picture shot in Gaza City of mourners carrying two Palestinian children for burial, dpa reported. Paul Hansen of Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter photographed the funeral procession of brothers Suhaib and Muhammad Hijazi on November 20. They were killed in an Israeli missile attack on their home. Jury member Mayu Mohanna said: "The strength of the pictures lies in the way it contrasts the anger and sorrow of the adults with the innocence of the children. It's a picture I will not forget." Hansen's photograph shows a group of men carrying the bodies in their arms to a mosque for the burial ceremony; behind them on the narrow street is their father's body being carried on a stretcher. Some 103,481 images were submitted by 5,666 photographers from 124 countries. Prizes were awarded in nine themed categories to 54 photographers. -- SPA
