At least 20 travelers died in a stampede at the local railway station during religious event Sunday, according to news reports. The stampede occurred on a foot bridge between two platforms of the overcrowded railway station, NDTV news agency reported citing railway sources. Eyewitnesses quoted by Zee News television channel said crowding on an overbridge caused a railing to break and there was a baton charge by the police which led to the stampede on the bridge and platform number six. Federal Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said he had reports that 10 people had died in the stampede but the numbers could rise.
