U.S. private-sector employers added 192,000 jobs in January, more than economists expected, in a sign of growth in the labor market, according to a report Wednesday by a payrolls processor. Economists had expected a gain of 165,000 jobs in the ADP national employment report. In December, ADP said private-sector employers added 185,000 jobs. The ADP report showed that most of January's gains came from small businesses with less than 50 employees. Such firms added 115,000 jobs this month. Medium-sized businesses, with 50 to 500 employees, added 79,000 jobs during the month, while large businesses cut 2,000 employees. The ADP figures come ahead of the governments more comprehensive labor-market report on Friday, which includes both public-sector and private-sector hiring. The Labor Department report is expected to show hiring was steady in January, with 160,000 jobs created.
