Central Italy was hit by a magnitude-4.8 earthquake, authorities said Friday. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, dpa reported. Italy is an earthquake-prone country. In 2009, 309 people died in a quake that hit the historic town of L'Aquila in Abruzzo, while two more claimed 27 lives in the region of Emilia-Romagna last May. Friday's event took place at 1448 GMT and had its epicentre in Garfagnana, a mountainous area in northern Tuscany between the provinces of Lucca, Modena and Pistoia, Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV) said on its website. -- SPA
