The United States on Tuesday called Afghanistan a democratic country granting human rights for all, ahead of the upcoming meetings with President Hamid Karzai in Washington this week. “Like all transitioning democracies, there are a huge number of challenges," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters. “There are security challenges, political challenges, and economic challenges." “The United States is deeply invested with our international partners in supporting and helping Afghanistan as it continues to try to move forward on all of those fronts," Nuland added. Asked what the United States expects to cover during the meetings, Nuland said that the United States will discuss security, political, economic, and regional issues with the Afghan president.
