The Interior Ministry announced today the arrest of a number of defendants in smuggling and promoting drugs, and the confiscation of large quantities of drugs. The Ministry pointed to the previous statement declared on 17-10-1433AH on the tasks of security men in the fight against drugs and psychotropic substances in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th months of the year 1433 AH, which resulted in the arrest of 762 defendants for their involvement in smuggling and promoting drugs and seizing their possession of drugs. The Spokesman Security of Interior Ministry said that further to the previous statement, security authorities were able during 10th, 11th and 12th months of the year 1433 AH to arrest 634 defendants including 207 Saudis, 174 Yemenis and 253 defendants from 32 different nationalities for their involvement in the crimes of smuggling, transferring, receiving and promoting narcotic substances whose market values estimated at SR 886,316,219. Security men faced during the performance of their duties armed resistance from smugglers and dealers in the number of security operations resulting in the injury of 12 security men and the death of 2, as well as the injury of 4 of smugglers and drug dealers. The total seizures of narcotic substances and psychotropic substances in these operations are as follows: First: (7) seven kilos and (206) two hundred and six grams and (680) six hundred and eighty milligrams of heroin , in addition to (174) one hundred and seventy-four grams and (200) two hundred milligrams of heroin intended for promotion. Second: (10) ten tons and (623) six hundred and twenty-three kilograms of hashish. Third: (1,551,868) one million and five hundred and fifty one thousand and eight hundred and sixty-eight amphetamine capsules. A sum of money amounted to 11,071,161 was seized from defendants.
