AlHijjah 25, 1433, Nov 10, 2012, SPA -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani said that the GCC countries are working to establish a center to monitor nuclear radiation for the GCC's use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and in order to avoid radiation and nuclear hazards. The Secretary General made the remarks in a speech at the opening ceremony of the third annual regional seminar on the fight against weapons of mass destruction under the title of "Challenges When Radiological or Nuclear Incidents Happen" organized by the Ministry of Defense today in cooperation with the U.S. Central Command with the participation of the United States and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen. The GCC Secretary General said the GCC countries seek to achieve five key strategic goals in this aspect including protection of the GCC against all regional and international threats, achievement of economic growth, maintenance of a high level of human development, improvement of management of crises and emergencies and strengthening the position of the GCC countries regionally and internationally. --MORE
