AlHijjah 7, 1433, Oct 23, 2012, SPA -- Joint U.N.-Arab League peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi is pushing for a cease-fire in Syria during Eid Al-Adh-ha holiday starting Friday, his spokesman said Tuesday as violence continued across the country. U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said Brahimi was pushing “extremely hard" for a cease-fire and would brief the divided U.N. Security Council on his efforts Wednesday. “It remains to be seen what will happen" regarding the cease-fire, he said. Nesirky said Brahimi, who was in Cairo on Tuesday after a visit to Syria, wanted “a long-lasting cease-fire that will enable a political process to unfold."
