Assad to step down and make way for the start of the democratic transformation, according to the statement of the Syrian Working Group on 30 June 2012. The two sides condemned all kinds of murder, torture and detention, and other violations of human rights and international law in Syria, and vowed to work to hold all those who commit such violations accountable. They expressed concern for the increasing number of refugees in neighboring countries as a result of the daily deterioration of the humanitarian situation, and called on the international community to support the Syrian people in their quest to achieve a democratic state that respects the rights of all citizens. --More
