AlQa'dah 1, 1433, Sep 17, 2012, SPA -- The international Symposium on “ISESCO and the Muslims in the West", which is held by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), in coordination with the Islamic Call Society of Chefchaouen, started today in the city of Chefchaouen (north of Morocco). At the opening of the symposium, ISESCO Director General Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Al-Twaijri made an address, in which he said: “In the time when international communication has become easy because of ongoing advances in communication technologies and transportation, and when the world has turned into a small village, voices speaking for rapprochement of ideas, opinions, doctrines and policies have to rise, conferences on concord and dialogue have to be held, the values of justice and human rights have to be preserved, and international organizations have to act as the world's conscience advocating these noble values, as the just mediator among decision makers, and as the platform to promote justice, virtue and rightness." Chief among the challenges to promoting these noble objectives and values, the Director General emphasized, is the blatant violation of Palestinians' rights as affirmed by the series of international resolutions over 60 years of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. He moreover highlighted that Islamophobia and smear campaigns against Islam are taking place under the misleading banner of freedom of expression. --More
