China is on track to meeting its 7.5-pe-cent annual growth target despite difficulties brought by the global economic downturn, dpa quoted Premier Wen Jiabao as saying on Tuesday. China had made "great achievements" in developing its economy but faced many difficulties in continuing growth, Wen said as he opened the three-day World Economic Forum's "summer Davos" in the northern city of Tianjin. The country "still has a big potential that is not yet fully tapped," but it could meet "a lot of difficulties in how to maintain steady and robust growth," he said. "We will give greater priority to adjusting growth," Wen said. "We have full confidence that the target for China's economic growth this year will be met." Around 2,000 delegates from 86 nations or regions registered for the forum, which has the theme "creating the future economy," organizers said. Tianjin and the nearby north-eastern city of Dalian have hosted the World Economic Forum's annual summer event in alternate years since 2007.
