Awwal 30, 1432, March 05, 2011, SPA -- Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday aired China's five-year plan to transform its economy, raise rural incomes and promote social stability. The next five years would be "crucial for speeding up the transformation of economic development," Wen said in his speech at the opening of the 10-day annual session of the National People's Congress, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA". The government would "promote long-term, steady and rapid economic development and social harmony and stability," Wen told some 3,000 delegates. The five-year plan, approved by the ruling Party in October, targets average annual growth in gross domestic product of about 7 per cent. The government aimed for economic growth of about 8 per cent this year, Wen said, slightly lower than the 10.3 per cent recorded last year. He said the government's top priority would be to control inflation and "keep overall price levels stable." Other key policies included expanding domestic demand, supporting agriculture, improving energy efficiency and reducing pollution, Wen said.
