U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah will travel to Amman, Jordan on September 5, after representing the United States in Riyadh at Yemen's Donor Conference, USAID said Tuesday. The conference, sponsored by Saudi Arabia, the World Bank, and the Yemeni government, pledged to donate a total of $6.4 billion to Yemen. The United States has pledged $345 million to the country this year. "The United States continues to stand by the Yemeni people as they take steps to realize a more secure, prosperous, and democratic future," USAID said in a statement. According to the agency, "while in Jordan, Administrator Shah will meet with senior Jordanian officials, representatives of the United Nations, international non-governmental organizations, and others to discuss the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria and U.S. assistance for those affected by the crisis." The agency said that Shah will also travel to areas along Jordan's border to speak with people who have fled the violence in Syria.
