Two people were killed when a portion of a bridge being built for Mumbai's metro collapsed on Tuesday, dpa quoted officials as saying. The accident took place in the Andheri area of India's financial capital. Fire services personnel carrying out rescue work at the accident site confirmed two deaths and said 11 people injured had been admitted at a nearby hospital. Witnesses however expressed fear that more people were trapped under the debris. It was not known what caused the collapse but officials said heavy rains could be behind the accident. Work on Mumbai's metro railway began in 2006 and the first phase is to open early next year.
