The United States of America has commended the Extraordinary Islamic Solidarity Summit that concluded in Makkah on Wednesday and its decision to suspend the membership of Syria in the Organization. In a press statement, Spokeswoman of U.S. State Department Victoria Nuland said that the decision of Syria's suspension sent a strong message to the Syrian regime and stressed the commitment to a peaceful solution for the conflict, which has lasted for 17 months in Syria. She pointed to the regime's increasing international isolation, the widespread support for the Syrian people and their struggle for a democratic state that represents their aspirations and respects their human rights. Nuland noted that the U.S. envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Rashad Hussain had during his participation in the Summit held meetings with a number of leaders of Islamic countries on the sidelines of the Summit, adding that his presence represents the commitment of the United States to work with its partners in the international community to support the aspirations of the Syrian people, and to impose more pressure on the regime of Bashar Al-Assad.
