The U.S. Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Mecca, Rashad Hussain, held bilateral meetings with Islamic heads of state and had a pre-dawn Ramadan meal (Sahoor) with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as well as other leaders, the State Department said Thursday. “They discussed a number of issues, including Syria, the democratic transitions in the Middle East and North Africa, and U.S. engagement with Muslim communities around the world," the State Department said in a statement. According to the State Department, Hussain's attendance demonstrated the “United States' commitment to working with our partners in the international community to support the aspirations of the Syrian people and bring additional pressure to bear on the Assad regime."
