Japanese authorities on Friday deported 14 Chinese activists and reporters who had been arrested after seven of them landed on a disputed island in the East China Sea, local media reported. The move came two days after five activists were arrested on Uotsuri Island for violating immigration laws after their arrival. Nine others, including a Hong Kong reporter and a cameraman, were detained by the Japan Coast Guard. The five activists, the reporter and the cameraman were flying back to Hong Kong while the other seven were returning on their vessel, the Jiji Press reported.
