Montenegro will hold early parliamentary elections on October 14, dpa cited President Filip Vujanovic as saying Tuesday. The ruling coalition of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) agreed earlier to renew their alliance, seeking early elections to win a new term in time for the start of EU accession talks. The European Union agreed in June to launch talks for Montenegro, the smallest former Yugoslav republic, to become a membership candidate. Parliamentary elections were originally due to take place in early 2013. The parliament had cut short its term last week, in a move strongly criticized by the opposition.
