Presidential elections will be held in Montenegro on April 6, parliamentary Speaker Ranko Krivokapic announced Thursday, according to dpa. He called on voters to turn out and support "the culture of dialogue and coexistence", and urged candidates to "respect the code of honour and the values that will rally the people around European integration." He also invited the European Union and various international organizations to monitor the election process. No candidates have been announced thus far. Incumbent President Filip Vujanovic of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) was first elected in 2003 and re-elected once Montenegro gained independence in 2006. Montenegro declared independence from Serbia in June 2006, a month after the European Union suspended stabilization and association talks with Serbia-Montenegro for lack of cooperation with The Hague- based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
