The United States on Monday condemned a series of "cowardly" attacks across Iraq that killed more than 100 people, saying the coordinated bombings and shootings were more egregious because they happened during Ramadan. "We strongly condemn these attacks which took place today, took place over the weekend, in Iraq. The targeting of innocents is always cowardly," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters. "It's particularly reprehensible during this holy month of Ramadan. I would like to say it's unusual. Unfortunately, it is not unusual that we have seen terrorists exploit the holy month, exploit the peaceful efforts by Iraqis to worship, to commit acts of terror," Nuland said.
