Heavy rain in the Houston area, where as much as 15 inches have fallen in five days, led to flooding of nearly 100 homes, officials said. The rain pushed Cypress Creek well above its flood stage and higher than it had been during Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, UPI reported. "It's going to get worse before it gets better," Francisco Sanchez, a Harris County spokesman, said as Cypress Creek continued rising Friday afternoon. More than three inches of rain fell Friday in a three-hour span ending about noon. The heaviest rains may be over, but the National Weather Service said an upper-level low-pressure system isn't moving out as quickly as expected, and that could bring heavy rains Saturday and Sunday.
