Heavy rainstorms swept across the Czech Republic overnight after days of tropical temperatures left residents in the eastern regions without electricity or shoveling layers of mud from flooded houses on Friday, reports said. Some 100 towns were hit in the eastern Zlin county where heavy rains flooded houses and gardens. People near the town of Kromeriz are distraught after enduring the ordeal after a flood exactly one week ago. In eastern Bohemia, the electricity supply company has declared a calamity as thousands of people were cut off from the grid on Thursday. Firefighters across the country have been clearing up fallen trees, torn power lines and helping people to pump water from flooded cellars.
