A train crashed into a truck in north-eastern South Africa on Friday, killing 23 people, mostly farm workers, officials said. Paramedics at the scene said 26 people were injured. Police spokesman Leonard Hlathi said the truck driver was arrested. It appeared that the truck driver, who was at a level crossing, had not seen the train, police officials said. The truck was carrying about 50 farm workers. Officials said it would take some time before they managed to clean the accident site, as the truck was dragged for more than 100 metres. The incident took place in Mpumalanga province, near the Kruger National Park game reserve.
