Two men were killed in central Vietnam when a train hit a truck trying to cross the railway, an official said Monday, according to dpa. The driver of the truck Phan Thanh Hung, 28, was killed instantly and his assistant died a few hours after he was rushed to hospital after the accident Sunday, when the express train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City slammed into the truck. "The train pushed the truck for nearly 300 metres along the railway before it could stop," said Tran Minh Thuy, head of the Traffic Police Department of central Quang Binh province, 500 kilometres south of Hanoi. There was no barrier or traffic light to stop people from crossing the railway when a train passes by and there have been several traffic accidents at the spot, according to Thuy. "It was lucky that the train didn't derail and fall down the dyke. Many people on the train would have been killed," Thuy said.
