The Secretary General of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al-Zayani called today on the world community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop bloodshed, destruction, displacement and migration and further protect the Syrian people, calling for stopping weapon supplies that the Syrian regime use against innocent people in Syria and expand and tighten sanctions so that pressure could be augmented to coerce it accept and comply by world community resolutions. Al-Zayani also called on the world community to accelerate provision of humanitarian assistance for hundreds of thousands of Syrians who are in dire need to them. In a speech before the 3rd Syria Friends Conference, which concluded in Paris today, Dr. Al-Zayani called for forwarding the Syrian issue to the United Nations Security Council to take a resolution obliging the regime to obey Annan plan according to the 7th Chapter of the United Nations Charter. We encourage all factions of Syrian opposition to unite ranks to play their expected role within the power transition process and pave the way for a new era in Syria that achieves the aspirations of the Syrian people, he said.
