King Abdullah II of Jordan has instructed the government to take necessary measures in coordination with the legislative authority to revisit a number of articles in the elections law approved by the Senate and the Lower House of Parliament recently, mainly those related to the national list. The King's directives came following a meeting with Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh, Senate President Taher Masri and Lower House Speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi during which he was briefed on the elections law and the constitutional stages it had passed through. The King ordered that an extraordinary session of Parliament be held early next month to amend the elections law and increase seats allocated for the national list, deemed a basic pillar for developing party life, and expanding the base of representation and political and public participation at the national level.
