An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck Tuesday morning in a remote region of Alaska, authorities said. The Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said the temblor was centered about 145 kilometers northwest of Attu Island in the Aleutian Islands. The center said no tsunami is expected. Alaska lies on the so-called Pacific ring of fire, home to the majority of the world's earthquakes.
