Two explosions on Thursday rocked the Syrian capital Damascus, targeting a security building and an arms depot, according the opposition, amid warnings that the country is sliding into civil war, dpa reported. One blast was caused by a car bomb, reported the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The state news agency, SANA, however, only mentioned one explosion, saying two people had been injured by a bomb in a car park near a hospital. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has warned that Syria is "spiraling towards civil war" with help from Russia, which is one of the main arms suppliers to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. "We have repeatedly urged the Russian government to cut these military ties completely and to suspend all further support and deliveries," Clinton told reporters in Washington. The remarks were the latest in what Clinton called a "long-distance debate" with Russia. Amnesty International Thursday accused the Syrian forces of committing grave abuses against civilians with "utter impunity." According to the opposition, more than 14,000 have been killed in Syria since a pro-democracy uprising started in March 2011.
