The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon met today at the Conferences Palace here, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Ali Bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi. In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Naimi said that the meeting discussed the importance of energy to the welfare and happiness of humankind, pointing out that he explained to the U.N. Secretary the Kingdom's strategy regarding energy and its moderate and lasting role in this area, and that the Kingdom wants that the world looks with realism to its need for fossil fuels for the coming years and making them friendly to the environment. The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources noted that they also discussed the desire of the U.N. Secretary General for the Kingdom's support for the success of the next conference "Rio Plus 20" to be held in Brazil through the submission of ideas and constructive support, stressing that the Kingdom will support and participate actively in the conference. The meeting was attended by Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Mua'lemi and a number of the Ministry's senior officials.
