The remains of 12 South Korean soldiers killed in North Korea were the first to be returned home since the 1953 ceasefire that ended the Korean War, a news report said Friday according to dpa. The remains were recovered by a US team from 2000 to 2004, who found the remains of 226 people during searches in northern North Korea, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported. DNA tests determined some of the remains were of Asians and further testing by both the United States and South Korea found that 12 sets were South Korean soldiers, two of whom have been identified, Yonhap said, citing South Korean Defence Ministry officials.
