At least 10 people were killed Thursday in an airstrike by a suspected US drone in Pakistan's north-western tribal region near the Afghan border, dpa quoted security and intelligence officials as saying. The predawn attack took place in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, one of the seven tribal districts where Taliban militants linked to al-Qaeda are active and have hideouts. The drone fired at least two missiles into a compound, destroying it and partially damaging a nearby mosque, a security official said on condition of anonymity. "Locals have pulled out 10 bodies from debris. Two or three unmanned drone aircraft were hovering in the sky, which created a barrier to rescue work and fear among the people," he said. Another intelligence official confirmed the attack and said that there were reports that some foreigners were among those killed. The death toll could not be confirmed independently. It was the second airstrike during the last 24 hours. On Wednesday, a drone attack killed four people in the same district.
