QUNFUDAH/HAIL: Municipal councils elected in 2005 have failed to meet the needs and expectations of citizens, according to Hattash Al-Hamzani, Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council in Hail. Al-Hamzani told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that over the past six years nominees merely attended sessions and received their allowances. He called on the Chairman of the Municipal Council in the region to issue regulations for municipal councils to improve their performance.Meanwhile, the Local Committee for municipal elections in Jeddah reviewed the work of the election centers during the first week of voter registration. This was at its sixth meeting chaired by Khaled Bin Fadhl Aqeel, Deputy Mayor, on behalf of Dr. Hani Bin Muhammad Abu Ras, Jeddah Mayor and Chairman of the committee. A total of 83,926 voters registered in 2005. Of these, 55,885 were in Jeddah and 28,041 were in the municipalities under the jurisdiction of the Jeddah Mayoralty. It is expected that the number of registered voters will increase this year with a large proportion of young voters aged 21 and older and because of greater awareness among citizens. There are 45 voter registration centers in seven electoral circuits and 20 election centers in 15 election circuits in the municipalities of the governorates. Meanwhile, Imad Bin Eid Al-Harbi, head of Al-Mudhailif Municipality inspected electoral center No.519 at King Fahd Primary School and checked preparations to receive new voters and update the data of previous voters. He also met with workers and Ali Bin Ahmad Al-Zubaidi, head of the electoral center. A total of 60 voters registered.
