RIYADH: The Economic Media Forum, which is being organized by the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), entitled “The role of the financial media in tackling developmental issues”, is scheduled to kick off Sunday at Riyadh Intercontinental Hotel under the patronage of Dr. Abdul Aziz Khoja, Minister of Culture and Information. Top government officials, economic experts, academics, prominent media personalities and a number of businessmen will discuss the role of the media in tackling developmental issues and how both positive and negative coverage might affect the national economy. RCCI, represented by the Economic Media Committee, has listed a number of important themes, topics and issues. On the first day there will be three sessions. The first will be “The role of the media in addressing the demographic crisis”. In this session, to be moderated by Hamad Al-Shuwai'er, with the participation of the Ministry of Housing, Ibrahim Al-Se'aidan and Khalid Al-Rubaish, the focus will be on how the media deals with this crisis and its impact on social realities. Muhanna Al-Muhanna, Dr. Muhammad Al-Jadeed and Dr. Abdul Hameed Al-Sulaiman are scheduled to participate in the second session entitled “The current status of the media on economic and commodity indices”. The session will tackle the importance of reliable indices being issued by the authorities to boost transparency and reflect real prices. The session will be moderated by Dr. Ihsan Buhlaiqah. The third session, which will be chaired by Qussay Al-Badran, will focus on “The role of the media in boosting job opportunities for women”. Participants include Dr. Aisha Nattu, Dr. Naima Al-Ghannam and Majida Al-Suwayyih. There will be three sessions on the second day of the forum Monday. The first will focus on “The contribution of new universities in developing the economies of their regions”. It will be moderated by Ahmad Al-Eisa with the participation of Dr. Ahmad Al-Yusuf from Hail University, Khalid Sulaiman Al-Rajhi and Dr. Abdullah Sadiq Dahlan. Participants will discuss the role of universities in job creation, . The second session will focus on “The way the media addresses the role of social responsibility in the private sector”. The session will be moderated by Hussein Al-Athel with the participation of Abdullah Al-Othaim, Abdullah Al-Muqairin and Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Magoushi. The last session will be held under the title “The trends of press publications and their relationship with economic issues”. It will be chaired by Jasser Al-Jasser, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Watan newspaper with the participation of Muhammad Al-Tunisi, Fahd Al-Ajlan, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rifai and Qaboul Al-Hajri. Participants will focus on the role of the press in helping to boost economic development efforts.
