KHOBAR: The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has signed an accord with Korean Doosan company to build MED-based desalination units with a daily production capacity of 68,190 cubic meters. This will be the first plant with such capacity in the world. The accord stipulates that SWCC will acquire the producing assets after three years of production, which will back the production of the Yanbu and Madina plants. The agreement stipulates that the corporation will own all engineering and technical rights for designing, manufacturing and setting up the desalination units. Thabit Alluhaibi, Deputy Governor of SWCC, said the agreement aims to develop the corporation's engineering, technical, managerial and legal rights to own, use and develop technology – for the SWCC to become a technology-producing corporation that is able to build desalination plants. The accord allows the corporation to acquire and document the project's engineering and other details, to ensure the project is completed on time and in accordance with specifications agreed upon, he added. He said a team of more than 30 engineers will manage the project, in addition to specialists from King Saud University who will be working with the team as consultants when reviewing the designs. He said it was an investment in the company's expertise in the industry.
