MUMBAI: Bollywood film makers have certainly been smitten by the reality bug in recent times. Going by the kind of films being made like – No One Killed, Jessica, Dhobi Ghat etc it really seems like film folks have realized that audiences cannot be fooled anymore. Or is it that audiences have had too much of fantasy served in films and are now matured enough to go for films with a touch of reality more than the fantasy world oriented films? Well, times have certainly changed and so has the audience's preferences. Gone are the days when films were watched solely for the entertainment for the family on weekends and holidays. Today's viewers are prone to go for films even on any given working day at any given time provided time permits. However, to be transformed into the surreal world of song and dance is something which today's audiences no longer enjoy. Times have certainly brought about significant changes in society and with certain unpleasant developments the positive side of modern society is perhaps the thinking audiences. Thus, the film makers have to doubly try hard to bring in the audiences to theatres and for that such reality based stories for their films does attract quite a lot of eyeballs as everyone and anyone in today's time wants to see what reality in society is all about. Thus as the trend had started a few years ago with movies like Lagaan etc it still is fashionable with recent films like Chandi Bar, Fashion, Page 3, Peepli Live all bring in great reviewsand with No One Killed Jessica and Dhobi Ghat going great at the box office this trend of reality based cinema is here to stay!
