RIYADH: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has withdrawn from the local market six herbal products claiming to help weight loss. The products, according to the authority, contain laxatives which can cause dehydration. The substance anthraquinone has also been found, which is a laxative that can have harmful effects on health. The SDFA said the withdrawn products had not been registered with it and had not undergone proper study and evaluation to ensure their safety or effectiveness. The products were also of unknown origin, the SDFA said, adding that the relevant authorities had been informed to withdraw any examples from the market and prevent their sale.
