JEDDAH: The Abdul Latif Jameel Company in Jeddah held recently a gathering for fans of the Toyota Land Cruiser to meet the designer and developer of the vehicle, Sadayoshi Koyari, Chief Engineer of Toyota Motor Corporation, after the car celebrated its sixtieth year. Koyari today is in charge of the Land Cruiser and Prado Toyota models in addition to the Lexus GX 460 and LX 570. At the gathering, Koyari described the Land Cruiser as having “enormous success in the Kingdom and across the world” with sales exceeding six million, a third of them in the Middle East since the vehicle entered the market in 1955. “For over 60 years three fundamental concepts have been the basis for the development of the Toyota Land Cruiser: power, reliability and durability,” Koyari said. Adil Azzat, the executive manager of Toyota four-wheel-drive vehicles at the Abdul Latif Jameel Company, said the Land Cruiser had become known by the nickname “Desert Conqueror” due to its ability to overcome the most testing of climatic and environmental conditions. “Passion for the Land Cruiser has been passed down from generation to generation,” he said. “It has become a symbol of the concepts it and Toyota cars represent for the enjoyment of everyone in the family.”
