JEDDAH: The Shoura Council has no executive authority and its job is lilmited only to two tasks - one is to approve regulations proposed by concerned departments and the other is to monitor the performance of government secotrs, two of its members have said. Dr. Majdi Al-Hariri and Dr. Mazen Al-Khayyat further said that the council form and discuss the regulations before they are approved. They gave the explanation on the second day of the two-day symposium of the 3rd Youth Business Fair, which opened Monday at the Jeddah International Exhibition and Conference Center. They also explained the possibilities available for youth business holders to participate in making decision in the council. Dr. Al-Hariri and Dr. Al-Khayyat assured the forum that the council will keep all channels open for the youths to interact with the council members either through the general secretariat, the website or the members in person. They encouraged young business holders' committees at the Commerce and Industry Chambers to coordinate with the Shoura Council to form a youth parliament in the council for their voices to be heard. Dr. Hariri said some of the frustrations at the council functions are a result of the ignorance about the procedures it takes to approve certain regulations. “The mechanism in forming the regulations follows a slow process,” said Dr. Al-Hariri. “It is that way for the good of the country.” He said that sometimes it takes the council two decades to approve some decisions.
