Riyadh Province accounts for 18.9 percent of the Kingdom's health centers, 35.4 percent of health care dispensaries and polyclinics, 22.7 percent of hospitals, and 44.4 percent of private clinics. This is perhaps due mainly to the high income of the population and the high proportion of residents working in the private sector, according to a press release of Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Several investment projects in this sector were inaugurated recently in Riyadh province, involving capital investment of about SR2.2 billion, the press release disclosed. Major projects that are under way in the province include eleven hospitals in various cities, construction of 44 health centers in Riyadh city, two hospitals in the eastern and northern parts of the capital, and a specialized center for the treatment of diabetics. In addition, 118 health centers and an academic center will be constructed in different parts of the capital.
